The Korea Communications Commission (KCC) said in a statement on Friday that it has concluded Apple and Google have breached the country’s telecommunications act by forcing app developers to use their payment systems at App Store and Google Play Store and unfairly delaying app reviews in an apparent abuse of their market dominance. Upon its finding, the Korean communications regulator on the same day notified Google and Apple of corrective action and warned of their combined fine of up to 68 billion won -47.5 billion won for Google and 20.5 billion won for Apple, which will be finalized after KCC hears out the companies’ response to its decision and other review processes, it said. South Korean electric vehicle battery majors’ plan to run more than 10 EV battery manufacturing plants in the US may hit a snag due to the looming union risk in the world’s third-largest EV market after Ultium Cells LLC’s agreement to hike wages by more than 20%. Ultium and the United Auto Workers(UAW) have tentatively agreed to give raises of about 25% to workers at the battery manufacturing plant in Warren, Ohio, the US largest auto labor union announced on Thursday. Ultium is an EV battery-making joint venture set up by South Korea’s largest EV battery maker LG Energy Solution Ltd. and US auto major General Motors Co. in the US. The EU parliament passed a new law on June 14 that requires smartphones to come with batteries that can be easily replaced by the user. The law isn’t specific to mobile phones but covers various types of batteries, including those in laptops and other portable devices. The IONIQ 5 robotaxi, based on Hyundai Motor Co.’s all-electric crossover, will launch its first fully driverless service for public passengers later this year, said the chief executive of Motional Inc., a joint venture between Hyundai and Aptiv PLC. The robotaxi service with Level 4 self-driving capabilities will first be offered in Las Vegas. At Level 4, a vehicle can drive itself under limited conditions and does not require safety operators in the front seat.
