가산ㆍ불가산 명사를 꼭! 꼭! 구별하삼~

♣영어의 명사에서 가장 중요한 것은 가산명사,불가산명사의 구별이다.

명사는 동사와 달리 의미의 폭이 비교적 작을 뿐 아니라, '기본형'에서 확장·변형되는 어법적 활용이 거의 없는 탓에 의미만 정확히 알고 있으면 실수하거나 문법적 오류를 범할 가능성이 적다고 할 수 있다. 그럼에도 불구하고 명사에서 종종 실수하기 쉬운 어법적 특징이 있는데,그 대표적인 것이 바로 가산명사와 불가산명사의 구별이다.

(1)가산명사가 단수인 경우에는 앞에 항상 a나 an이 와야 하며 복수인 경우에는 뒤에 -s나 -es가 붙어야 한다.

(2)불가산명사는 단수형, 복수형이 따로 없으며 앞에 a나 an이 오거나 뒤에 복수형인 -s, 또는 -es가 붙으면 틀린다.

♣다음은 각종 영어시험에 자주 나오는 불가산 명사들이다.

☞money는 불가산 명사지만 money의 단위는 가산명사일 수 있다. 예를 들어 dollar는 복수일 경우 dollars가 된다.

♣Check it out

명사의 앞쪽 빈칸에는 a, an 혹은 ×(관사 없음)를,명사의 뒤쪽 빈칸에는 －s나 －es 혹은 ×(복수 아님)를 적절하게 넣어라.
